New Domain For The Collage Square
I launched a crowd sourced photo collage a while ago, but it doesn't look like anyone is using it. Maybe it's because it doesn't have a domain? Don't know, but probably it's just not very interesting. Either way, I saw GoDaddy having a promotion on domains for $1, so I figure why not and purchased collagesquare.com. Maybe it'll far better with a domain.

Don't Buy Dane-Elec USB Flash Drives
I recently purchased a couple of Dane-Elec USB flash drives from Target while they were on sale for $9. Bad move. I've had Dane-Elec devices before and they worked fine so I didn't think anything of it. Fast forward 3 days, one of the drives fails. It just started showing up as an unusable 8MB drive one day. I did some research and it seems that Dane-Elec is using chips from ChipsBank, which seems to have a record of failing in the same fashion as mine did. Some reported that they were able to fix it using something called UMPTool, but the tool didn't work for me.
Moral of this story? Keep your packaging for at least a week, I didn't think a flash drive would fail in this fashion so quickly, so I threw out the package. Tried to return it to Target but they wouldn't take it back. And $10 is not enough money for me to dig through the garbage to find the packaging. I guess it's a $10 lesson learned.
Oh yea, Dane-Elec had a "5 year warranty" on the flash drives, but good luck trying to claim it. Their site is pretty much in French, and I filed a ticket a few days ago but still have not heard back. I also can't RMA the drive because it asks for a serial # when registering, which is not on the drive itself.
So remember folks, always keep your packaging and don't buy Dane-Elec.

The Collage Square, A Crowd Sourced Photo Collage
I have time on my hands and figure I'd do something interesting, and this is the result. The Collage Square is a crowd sourced photo collage. Anyone can select a block on the 15x15 grid and upload a photo. Yea, yea, I know. Allowing anyone to upload photos could turn out to be a very bad idea, but I hope something interesting will come out of this. And please, if you do upload a photo, "safe for work" photos only.
Check it out and share it, thanks.

I just launched WaywardWeb this past week. It's a new place for me to post my rants, so there'll be less of that here from now on. What is WaywardWeb? No idea, it'll be whatever I make it, it's a random domain I thought up that wasn't registered.

No Trains For 2 Days
Blizzards are not as fun now that I work. It's worst when the trains don't run. The train in my neighborhood have been down for 2 days and there's no telling how long it will take to restore service. I worked at home on Monday, but it's such a pain to be working remotely via Remote Desktop. I hauled myself to work today, walking ~45 minutes to the next working train. The worst part? The trains are still not working, and I had to walk another ~45 minutes back home after work. Fun times.

Android is Weak
I've been liking Android, but I just ran into one of the platform's major weaknesses. It's been reported before in all the tech blogs, but I didn't think anything of it because I'm not a big app guy. I ran out of space. I still have plenty of space on my SD card, what I ran out of is internal memory. Once your out of internal memory, the only solution is to delete apps. I did not think this would be a major problem because most apps are small, but as it turns out, a few megabytes here and a few megabytes there does add up.
Hopefully Sony Ericsson have plans to upgrade the X10 line to Android 2.2 so we have the ability to move apps to the SD card. My old Nokia N78 had this feature, and it worked pretty well.
Oh, and no CR 48 for me... Boo Google, Booooo!

Grabs Your Free Apps Now!
It's the holiday season, and some app developers on the iOS platform is feeling generous and are giving away their apps. Some are already in the top free charts, go grab them while you still can. I use an app called AppShopper to find out about these sales. I check it every couple of days and have gotten some nice apps for free while they were free for a limited time.

The Google Chrome OS laptop Cr-48 is shipping, but I have yet to be contacted about it. Guess I wasn't selected as a beta tester. Never had any luck with stuff like this. Boo! :(
